Is your method also valid when Oracle rewrites the queries with materialized views?
Certainly. The plan is the plan. It doesn't matter if the plan is derived for a query using direct table joins or complex views or via query rewrite to use a materialized view. The issue you face when a rewrite occurs is that it's often harder for you to decipher what the optimizer did (i.e. view merging, subquery unnesting, query rewrite, etc.).
But, the bottom-line is that the explain plan and STAT lines still give you the information you need. |
