Does Hotsos have a product that parses the 10053 Trace File and produce a meaningful report?
The 10053 trace file can be really hard to parse unlike the 10046 trace file which is mostly consistent across versions. The trace file can get pretty voluminous too with all the join combinations and their analysis. At this time, we do not have any plans to introduce a product that parses 10053 trace files.
We recommend that this be used mostly to work with Oracle on support issues with the optimizer and you believe that given the statistics the optimizer is not doing the right thing.
Don't get the idea that the 10046 data is easy to parse. It is most assuredly NOT! The book Optimizing Oracle Performance guides you through some of the easy stuff, but once you start accounting for recursive SQL calls, RPC calls, commits, and the like, it gets really ugly really fast.
We've flirted with a 10053 parser. It's a nice idea, and it's on our wish-list to do it. We have the people in the company who know how to do it. But we have a lot of other research and product development ideas that we intend to materialize first. |
