I read on the web that if I change some init.ora parameters, performance will improve. Is that true?

Beware of these claims. Changing optimizer parameters globally can potentially have a negative impact on queries that are working well.

Whenever it makes sense to change init.ora parameters for one-off queries, we recommend that the query be executed by a user who has a logon trigger that changes the optimize environment during login.

As far as possible, stick with the default optimzier parameters unless you have compelling evidence that your queries are going to improve across the board.
