We are an Oracle Applications shop and we use FND_STATS to collect stats. When I use dbms_stats for histograms, will it overwrite the stats collected by fnd_stats ?
You should use FND_STATS when gathering statistics in 11i environments. Usage of DBMS_STATS is usually not supprted. FND_STATS does provide most of the capabilities of DBMS_STATS. If you are an E-Business environment, we have a consulting solution which addresses these issues and concerns.
Yes, Oracle Apps 11i requires customers to run the fnd_stats package, rather than just the dbms_stats package, to gather statistics for 11i's database objects. You can run fnd_stats either implicitly by using the FNDFSCST "Gather Schema Statistics" job that calls fnd_stats under the covers, schema by schema, or you can run fnd_stats from your own SQL*Plus or shell script.
fnd_stats has two steps: * runs dbms_stats under the covers, without histogram collection, to do the basic work of stats gathering * reads a special pre-seeded table fnd_histogram_cols to see what table/column histograms Oracle Apps Development wants to have calculated, then calculates those histogram statistics Hope this helps; thanks... |
