Does Method R support for Performance tuning of Oracle 10g

Dear Sir,

Since last 4 years i have been using Method R for performance tuning problems/issue and got good result also.

Now recently i got new project to provide suggestion for performance tuning issue on  oracle 10g RAC.According apps team they are using application connection pooling. One more thing i would like to inform you i do not have direct access to staging and production servers.

I would like to know about following information
(1)How to use Method R for oracle 10g RAC?
(2)How to trace perticular session ?(according to apps team they are using application server connection pooling.)
(3)Is there any other points i need take care ?

Waiting for reply.

Thanks

Hi Jaimin,

Method R certaily works for 10g. It works for 11g too. In fact for any ORACLE release that's capable of emitting PARSE, EXEC, FETCH and WAIT to SQL trace files.

With connection pooling, it helps when the application is instrumented with DBMS_SESSION.SET_IDENTIFIER. You can then use DBMS_MONITOR to trace a session by client identifier. See also Hotsos ILO library.

I cover all the details on JDBC instrumentation with end to end metrics in my upcoming book Secret ORACLE. Instrumentation with ILO and PL/SQL are also covered. See www.oradbpro.com/publications.html.

Kind regards,
Norbert
