Generally speaking, how does "statistics_level=all" affect performance?

In my experience up thru 9.2 there seems to be little noticeable performance hit when setting statistics_level to all.  My understanding is that Oracle is really "doing the work" for all even if the level is set to typical, it's just not using the information.  I've heard some folks say that in 10 they have noticed some impact, but I don't know how much.  I would recommend that you would still want to have this set to all because with out it, the trace data is lacking.  The key issue is that the time values don't add up right in the stat lines, which make for problems when doing performance analysis.
